Monarch of the Mountains
I painted the background for this scene from my memories of hunting with my husband in the rugged mountains of Alaska.
The Alaskan Dall sheep was created using a piece of Dall sheep pelt for the body. I used caribou for the horns and dyed them brown. The nose is a small piece of caribou hide. The grass is Sitka black-tail deer hair from Kodiak Island, and the mountain the sheep is standing on is also a piece of caribou pelt.
I placed the artwork in a 12"x 16" deep shadowbox frame, covered with glass for protection.
